和 SPOKEN WORD NIGHT
和 SPOKEN WORD NIGHT
Poetic encounters with Japan & the world
Wa Spoken Word Night is a polylingual poetic encounter between Japan and Berlin. For our third volume, we chose the theme 間 MA or aida, signifying the in-between, a space, liminal or figurative, or a pause.
The concept of 間 ma, aida, tells of a central aesthetic principle of Japanese performing arts and music. The white space in-between, a pause, an interval stands as its own central element, creates a necessary reset, or a literal break. The state of not yet isn’t excluded or thought of as unnecessary, on the contrary, there is a lot to discover in this space before the next beat: intent, tension, even a certain tranquility.
Come join us for a night of poetry, spoken word and music by Berlin artists, poets and writers, topped off by a bilingual-translation reading of one of the most classic authors of modern Japan: Dazai Osamu on our stage.
The event will be held in English, readings are open to any language. Entry from 19h.
